MDT Management of Radicular Syndrome

This course is 14 hours, consisting of lecture presentations, interview presentations, analysis of case studies and problem solving in groups. The course is open to Credentialled Therapists and those who have completed Parts A to C of the McKenzie MDT Education Programme. Therapists who have had some experience using MDT for Spinal disorders will find the course most beneficial.

The pathologies that can result in radiculopathies will be described and the clinical findings of each discussed. There will be an emphasis on the assessment and management of lumbar and cervical radiculopathies. The role of surgery will be examined, and the role of MDT in post surgery management discussed. Differentiation of other causes of limb symptoms will be examined through the analysis of clinical examples.

Lecturer profile

Helen Clare (ES)

FACP, PhD, MAppSc, GradDipManipTher, DipPhty, Dip. MDT

Se graduó como fisioterapeuta en la Universidad de Otago ( Nueva Zelanda ) en 1975. Trabaja y vive en Sydney (Australia) desde 1979.

Realizó sus estudios de posgrado en la Universidad de Sydney completando su Diploma de Posgrado en Terapia Manual en 1983, su Máster en Ciencias Aplicadas en 1989 y obtuvo su doctorado en filosofía en el 2005, con su trabajo titulado “Evaluación del Método McKenzie”.

Actualmente sigue unida a la Universidad de Sydney trabajando como personal académico asociado y co-supervisa a estudiantes graduados.

En el 2009 se convirtió en fisioterapeuta especializada en el sistema músculo- esquelético. Es miembro del Colegio Australiano de Fisioterapeutas.

Helen tiene el Diploma en MDT (Diagnóstico y Terapia Mecánica). Ha sido instructora en el Instituto McKenzie desde 1986 y actualmente es la única miembro docente del Instituto McKenzie en Australia.

También imparte cursos del Método McKenzie a nivel internacional y hasta la fecha los ha impartido en 32 países del mundo. Es la Directora Internacional de Educación del Instituto McKenzie Internacional desde 1999.

Helen tiene una gran experiencia en el manejo del dolor de espalda tanto a nivel cervical como lumbar. Cuenta con un interés clínico especial en el tratamiento de la radiculopatía cervical y la diferenciación de la patología cervical / del hombro.

Helen otorga gran importancia a la auto-tratamiento con el ejercicio y la actividad física.
